Connect a calendar

You connect a Google or Microsoft 365 calendar per assistant under Settings → Integrations; scoco reads busy times there, not their content, and adds the appointments it books.

For your assistant to give out appointments on the phone, it needs access to a calendar. Without one, it takes appointment requests down as a message. This page shows how to connect Google Calendar or Microsoft 365, what scoco reads and writes in your calendar, and how to disconnect again.

Before you connect

The calendar belongs to an assistant, not to the whole account. If you have two assistants, you connect a calendar for each. When connecting, sign in with the account of the person whose calendar the appointments should go into. scoco uses that account's main calendar.

Connect a calendar

  1. Open SettingsIntegrations. Each assistant has its own section there with a Calendar card.
  2. Click Connect Google Calendar or Connect Microsoft 365.
  3. Sign in with the provider and grant access.
  4. You return to Integrations. The card now shows the address of the connected account.
  5. Click Test. scoco asks for tomorrow's free slots and reports how many it found.

Connecting also switches on Allow booking appointments on the assistant's Appointments tab. How your assistant then books is described in Book appointments by phone.

You can also get here from AssistantsAppointments and from the Appointments page, via Go to integrations or Connect calendar.

What scoco reads and writes

Reading: to find free time, scoco reads only the start and end of your entries. It does not read the titles, attendees or content of your appointments.

Writing: for each appointment it books, scoco creates an entry titled "Termin:" followed by the caller's name and the reason in brackets, with the reason in the description as well. scoco can only change or delete entries it created itself, when an appointment is moved or cancelled. If such an entry has been turned into a recurring series in your calendar, scoco leaves it alone.

Technically, the permissions are calendar.events.owned and calendar.freebusy with Google and Calendars.ReadWrite with Microsoft. scoco stores the access encrypted.

Check the status

On the assistant's Appointments tab, the Calendar card shows the state:

  • Calendar connected: all is well.
  • Connection interrupted: the connection was not completed or is no longer active.
  • Problem — calendar unreachable: the calendar did not respond recently. If your assistant cannot reach it during a call, it takes the appointment request down as a message.

Test the connection checks the connection straight away.

Disconnect

  1. Open SettingsIntegrations.
  2. In the assistant's Calendar card, click Disconnect.

Disconnecting takes effect immediately, without a confirmation. scoco deletes its access. With Google, scoco also revokes the permission at Google. With Microsoft, remove the permission yourself in your Microsoft account if you want to. Entries already in your calendar stay there.

Common problems

Access was not granted. You declined or cancelled the permission at the provider. Nothing was changed. Start connecting again.

The sign-in expired. You waited too long or started the sign-in in another window. Start connecting again.

Problem — renew the connection. The provider no longer accepts the access, for example because the permission was revoked. Click Disconnect and connect again. Your settings on the Appointments tab are kept.

Connection interrupted. The connect buttons are back. Connect again.

Appointments land in the wrong calendar. scoco writes to the main calendar of the account that signed in. Disconnect and connect with the right account.
