Choose your assistant's voice
Under Assistants → Voice & language you pick one of 24 voices after listening to its sample; callers hear it from the next call on.
Callers hear your assistant in one of 24 voices. You listen to them first and choose with one click. This page covers which voices exist, how to switch and what changes on the phone afterwards.
Choose a voice
- Open Assistants and choose your assistant.
- Go to the Voice & language tab.
- In the Voice card, click Sample next to a voice. Stop ends it.
- Select the voice. It is saved straight away, and the card briefly shows Saved.
- Call your assistant's scoco number yourself to hear the new voice (test call).
The new voice applies from the next call. The setup wizard offers the same choice in its Choose a voice step.
Which voices exist
At first the card shows the voices marked Popular, ten in all. If your assistant uses a different voice, it is listed with them. The button below the list adds the other fourteen, split into Female voices and Male voices. Show fewer voices collapses the list again.
Popular means these are our German voices, without an accent. The other fourteen speak German with an accent, for example British, American or French. Popular says nothing about which voice other scoco customers choose.

Samples
Every sample speaks a short German text: a moment from a call, for example booking an appointment at a dental practice or taking a message for a garage. Some voices read the same text, so you hear the difference directly. It is not your greeting. With any voice, your assistant speaks your own texts. Only one sample plays at a time: starting a second one stops the first.
How your assistant sounds with your greeting and your settings you only hear when you call it yourself.
What changes when you switch
Everything your assistant says. From the next call on, the new voice speaks the greeting, the fixed announcements and the whole conversation, in every language. You do not need to generate or upload anything.
The volume. The voices differ in loudness. scoco evens this out automatically, so your assistant stays at about the same volume.
Not the wording of the greeting. It stays as it is. German greetings are gendered: if the form your assistant uses for itself ("Telefonassistent" or "Assistentin") does not match the voice's gender, the card shows a note. Where the form can be swapped unambiguously, one click there changes it, and the greeting is saved straight away. Otherwise the note tells you to change the greeting in the Behaviour tab. If it has unsaved changes there, the note asks you to save them first. More in Change the greeting.
Other languages. When a call switches language, your chosen voice carries on in the new language. See One voice in every language.
The backup voice
If speech output fails during a call, your assistant carries on with a backup voice: a voice of the same gender from a second speech provider. The call goes on, only the voice sounds different. Every voice has its backup voice built in; there is nothing to set.
Common problems
The card shows Not saved. The voice was not applied, and callers still hear the previous one. Select the voice again.
You are looking for the speaking pace. The speaking pace cannot be set. Choose a voice whose pace you like in its sample.
A different voice speaks on a call. A language switch does not change the voice, unless we set up a voice of its own for that language for your assistant. If it changes in the middle of a call, speech output was briefly disrupted and the backup voice took over.
