# Ask scoco: ask, change, check

> Ask scoco answers questions about your calls, and proposes changes to settings, rules and knowledge to owners and admins, which take effect only once you apply them.

https://scoco.ai/en/docs/ask-scoco/

In **Ask scoco** you ask questions about your calls in your own words. When an answer rests on particular calls, it names them. As an owner or admin you can also ask Ask scoco to change something about your assistants: you then get a proposal that you check, test and apply yourself. This page covers what Ask scoco does for each role, how a proposal works, and what Ask scoco never does.

## What you can ask

Type your question into the **Ask a question…** field and click **Ask**. Under **Period** you choose how far back Ask scoco looks, for example **7 days** or **This month**.

Ask scoco sees only what your role sees in the dashboard:

- **Every role** asks about calls, about figures such as missed or booked calls, and about what is still open in the **Inbox**, for example "Who called about an invoice this week?" or "Which callbacks are still open?". Ask scoco does not read your contact list or your calendar.
- **Every role** can also ask how something works in the dashboard, for example "How do I set up call forwarding?". Ask scoco then answers from these help pages and links the page it relies on below the answer. If it finds nothing there, it says so.
- **Owners and admins** can also ask about their assistants' settings, rules and knowledge, for example "Why was the 10:12 call this morning not put through?" or "Which questions could the assistant not answer this week?".

Whether Ask scoco also reads transcripts is set under [data retention](https://scoco.ai/en/docs/data-retention/#ask-scoco).

Your conversations are in the **History**: on a computer to the left of the conversation, on a phone behind the clock icon next to the title. **New question** starts a new conversation. Each conversation in the history has a three-dot menu. A right-click on the conversation or Shift+F10 opens it too:

- **Pin** puts the conversation at the top under **Pinned**, and **Unpin** takes it out again. Under **Pinned**, Ask scoco also offers questions such as "Monthly review" that you ask with one click.
- **Rename** changes the title right in the list. Enter saves, Esc cancels. An empty title is not saved.
- **Delete** removes the conversation and all its answers for good, after asking you to confirm.

Pinning and renaming do not change the order of the history. **Ask again** in the menu at the top right of a conversation asks its first question again.

## Asking beside any page

You don't have to switch to Ask scoco first. Cmd J (Mac) or Ctrl J opens Ask scoco beside the page you are on. **Open Ask scoco**, the button with the star at the top of the sidebar (on a phone, in the bar at the top), does the same. On a phone Ask scoco covers the page; **Close** hides it again, and on a computer so does Esc while your cursor is in it.

Above the input field it says what your question is about:

- **About this call** appears when a call is open in the **Inbox**, and **About this WhatsApp conversation** for a WhatsApp conversation. "What did the caller want?" then means exactly that conversation. This works for every role. Test calls are left out. As an owner or admin you can also say "Put this caller straight through to the workshop from now on" there: the proposal is then a rule for their number. This does not work for a withheld number.
- **About this assistant** appears for owners and admins on an assistant's page. "Anonymous callers should leave a message" then becomes a proposal for that assistant. Once you apply it, the page beside it shows the change straight away.
- When nothing appears there, the question is not about any particular page.

The conversation stays open while you move between pages, and each question is about the page you ask it on. Like any other, it is in your Ask scoco history; **Continue in Ask scoco** opens it there. Reloading the page starts the window empty.

## Having a change proposed

As an owner or admin you tell Ask scoco what should be different. Ask scoco changes nothing itself: it prepares a proposal, and only your click puts it into effect.

1. Describe the change in your own words, for example "Sales calls should be referred to info@example.com" or "Remove the rule for parcel services". If you have several assistants and name none, Ask scoco asks which one the change is for, unless you ask on an assistant's page or the conversation has already named it.
2. Ask scoco replies with a **Proposal** card. It shows which assistant is affected (for the status, all of them) and what changes: for a changed rule or setting, the current and the new state.
3. Read the notes on the card, see below.
4. If you like, try the proposal out with **Test**, see below.
5. Click **Apply**. The change takes effect from the next call.

Ask scoco can propose:

- **Settings** of an assistant, such as the greeting, the business hours or whether known callers are put straight through
- **Rules:** a new rule, a changed one, a deleted one or a different order, see [Rules](https://scoco.ai/en/docs/rules/). The two rules marked **Managed from Contacts** are changed only under **Contacts**.
- **Knowledge:** a new entry, the answer to a question the assistant could not answer, dismissing such a question, or deleting a document, see [Knowledge](https://scoco.ai/en/docs/knowledge/)
- **The status** for all assistants, for example "I'm in a meeting until 3 pm": **Messages only** or **Paused**, always with an end at most 24 hours later, or back to **Active**, see [Status through Ask scoco](https://scoco.ai/en/docs/assistant-status/#ask-scoco)
- **A single assistant** switched on or off, for example "Reception is closed until Monday": **Messages only** or **Offline** always with an end, at most 14 days later, or back to **Active**, see [Silence an assistant](https://scoco.ai/en/docs/several-assistants/#silence)

For a rule you can also do this right in an assistant's **Rules** card, see [Describe a rule in your own words](https://scoco.ai/en/docs/rules/#describe).

If you want to adjust the proposal first, **Open in the form** opens the assistant's usual form. For a new or changed rule and for settings on the **Behaviour** tab it is filled in with the proposal; otherwise the matching tab opens. What you save there is what applies. **Discard** turns the proposal down.

### The notes on the card

- **Affects live calls** is on every proposal that applies to real callers once applied.
- **May cost minutes or SMS** appears next to a setting that can use more minutes or text messages: it switches something on, puts more callers through or lets silent calls run longer.
- If the proposal concerns a rule that puts callers through to a phone, or a setting that costs minutes or SMS, applying it needs a sign-in within the last 15 minutes. The card points this out. If your sign-in is older, it offers **Sign in again**.
- For knowledge, the card shows the exact text the assistant may read out to callers. If it contains bank details, a phone number, a link or an e-mail address, the card points this out. The same goes for a text every caller hears or reads, such as the greeting or the missed-call text message. Check those details character by character.
- If Ask scoco read call content before making the proposal, the card asks you to check it especially closely.

> **Note:**
>
> Only the person who asked for a proposal can apply it. A proposal stays open for 24 hours. If something the card shows was changed in the meantime, Ask scoco does not apply it and asks you to request it again.

## Testing a proposal

For rules, knowledge and some settings, the card offers **Test**. The input field then shows which proposal is being tested.

1. Click **Test** on the card.
2. Describe a call, for example "An unknown caller offers software, Tuesday 3 pm". For knowledge, write a caller's question.
3. Ask scoco answers what would have happened without the proposal and with it.

This is a simulation: no call is made and nothing is changed. **Stop testing** takes you back to asking normally.

## Undoing

After you apply a proposal, the card offers **Undo** as long as nothing else has been changed on that assistant since. **History** opens the assistant's history. Knowledge cannot be taken back here: you change an applied entry in the assistant's knowledge, via **Open in Knowledge**, and add a deleted document again. The card does not take back a status either: you switch it back with one click on the status, a single assistant next to its name. More under [Review and undo changes](https://scoco.ai/en/docs/undo-changes/).

## What Ask scoco never does

- It changes nothing without your click on **Apply**.
- It does not change calls, contacts or appointments, and it sends nothing, neither text messages nor e-mails.
- It changes no phone numbers, neither your account's numbers nor the ones your assistant puts callers through to. You also set the voice and the languages yourself.
- It does not change your team, billing or integrations.

Ask scoco is also instructed not to follow instructions found in calls, documents or web pages, to propose only what you ask for, and to word knowledge only from what you write yourself. That is an instruction to the AI, not a technical lock. The lock is your click: the card shows exactly what changes beforehand, and warns you when Ask scoco read call content first.

## Common problems

**Ask scoco makes no proposal.** Proposals are for owners and admins only. In other roles Ask scoco answers questions but changes nothing.

**The daily allowance is used up.** Ask scoco has a daily allowance for your whole account. It starts again at midnight, German time. Your data is not affected.

**Too many questions in a short time.** Wait the number of seconds shown, then ask again.
